OAEM operates a
number of active committees to address projects and issues as part of the
organization's strategic plan. We are always looking for volunteers to get
involved and participate.

Committee Chair (highlighted below) to volunteer!
Communications: Richard Kinchlea
This committee is responsible for the maintenance of the web site, the publication of the newsletter, as well as any other initiatives geared to keeping our members informed on the activities of the association and pertinent information related to the field of emergency management in the province. People with writing skills are particularly in demand to work with this committee, however, all members can provide articles of interest to the committee chair for inclusion in the regular newsletters.
Certification: Alain Normand, Michael Hand
This committee is working towards developing a certification program for our members. The committee has long-term goals of providing recognition of our members as professionals in the field of emergency management. The committee works closely with the International Association of Emergency Managers towards developing criteria for certification, and testing mechanisms. We hope to see some day in the future when the Association can provide a professional certification to members who have fulfilled all criteria. We also look forward to the day when employers will require certification when hiring emergency managers. People who already have a professional designation would be an asset to this committee but anyone with an interest in seeing the professionalization of our association is encouraged to participate.
Membership: Sean Bertleff
This committee looks after the recruitment, registration, renewal, and maintenance of new memberships for the Association. It requires a bit of marketing ability, occasional presence at special events where the Association can be promoted such as the World Conference on Disaster Management, and a bit of administration for the handling of registrations and renewals. This is a small committee that requires three or four people to coordinate, however, every member should participate in promoting the association.
Professional Development: Robert McDonald
This committee plans and organises the OAEM professional development workshops. These workshops are planned for three times a year. In the future, this committee will also be looking at other avenues whereby we can provide access to professional development of our memebers particularly when they are located in some of our remote areas of the province. This committee requires commitment from about half a dozen members presently, but could see growth with new initiatives. We need people who are good at organising events including room reservations, catering, audio-visual requirements, as well as contacting and confirming guest speakers.
Educational Events Sponsorship: Richard Kinchlea
Education Programs: Alain Normand
This committee is working towards ensuring the creation and maintenance of emergency management education programs through colleges and universities in Ontario. Once the curriculum are established and the courses offered, this committee will be the link to provide input on potential teachers and course facilitators, review of teaching material and review of curriculum to ensure on-going adaptation to current trends and procedures in the field. People with teaching skills would be an asset to this committee but this committee needs members who are up-to-date in the field of emergency management, its current trends, and capable of reviewing curriculum to ensure it is accurate. This committee only requires two or three people at this time.
Awards and Recognition: Alain Normand
This committee looks after the recognition of members that have contributed significantly to the advancement of the goals of the association. The committee ensure a review of candidates proposed for award and recognition by members, investigates the validity of the candidature and organises the delivery of the award to the person being recognised. Here again only two or three people are needed for this committee.
