Mentorship Program

The OAEM Mentorship Program is designed to connect Disaster and Emergency Management students with Emergency Management and Business Continuity professionals, allowing them the opportunity to gain valuable experience and advice for professional/career development.

Mentors contribute to the growth of Emergency Management in Ontario by fostering a new generation of capable, knowledgeable and innovative young professionals.

Connecting people across our EM community in Ontario is key to the mission of OAEM!

Applications will open March 1, 2021, for our next cohort: April to October 2021.

Commitment: 3 hours per month. The length of the pairing is approximately 6 months.

Purpose: The relationship between mentors and mentees is viewed as a partnership. Therefore, the Mentorship Program is not intended as a co-op placement service for students but is offered as a tool for students seeking career advice from successful and experienced Emergency Management and/or Business Continuity Professionals.

Expectations: Mentors and mentees will set their own contracts in terms of expectations and time commitment. The OAEM Education Director will oversee the program.

Examples of Opportunities & Venues: The exchange can take many forms, including discussion over the phone, online, or in person, as well as through attendance at workshops, networking events, job shadowing, tours of facilities, or other interactions.
