Public Safety Canada - Government Operations Centre

The Government Operations Centre (GOC) supports preparedness for and leads the coordination of the integrated federal response to all-hazard events of national interest.

GOC Response Level:   As of May 29, 2025 the GOC is activated at Level 3 (Coordination of Federal Response) for wildfires. The GOC is also activated at Level 1 (Enhanced Reporting) for flooding.


Province of Ontario - Emergency Management Ontario 

The three provincial response levels are routine monitoring, enhanced monitoring, and activation. The provincial response level adopted will depend upon the severity of the emergency and the appropriate type and level of staffing required to monitor and/or respond.

Active First Nation communities declarations of emergency: 
  • May 31, 2025 - Deer Lake First Nation and Webequie First Nation each declared a state of emergency, as forest fires continue to pose a danger to communities.
  • May 8, 2025 - Pikangikum First Nation in northern Ontario has declared a state of emergency due to the critical condition of its water and wastewater systems.

Heat Warning -  Environment Canada

Heat warning continued for:

  • City of Toronto, Ont. (043100)
  • Kitchener - Cambridge - Region of Waterloo, Ont. (046430)
  • Mississauga - Brampton, Ont. (046620)
  • Halton Hills - Milton, Ont. (046630)
  • Burlington - Oakville, Ont. (046640)

Humidex values reaching 35 are expected for more than 5 days. A prolonged period of hot and humidity continues. Daytime highs of 31 to 34 degrees Celsius and a humidex of 37 to 42. Overnight lows of 19 to 21 degrees Celsius, providing little relief from the heat.

Northwest Region

At the time of this update, there are 54 active fires in the Northwest Region. Among them, 17 are not under control, 4 are being held, 6 are under control, and 27 are being observed. The wildland fire hazard is low to moderate across the majority of the Northwest Region, while the Red Lake and Kenora sectors are showing a predominantly moderate to high hazard. Of note, the City of Thunder Bay and surrounding areas; an area located west of Wabigoon Lake; an area located south of Black Sturgeon Lake; as well as Slate Falls Nation and surrounding areas are showing a high hazard this evening.

  • Red Lake 12 - Deer Lake First Nation, Sandy Lake First Nation
  • Red Lake 62 – Pikangikum First Nation The Ministry of Natural Resources’ Far North District has invoked an Implementation Order now in effect for the purposes of public safety and/or effectual fire suppression, for areas near Red Lake 62 (RED062) Under the Emergency Area Order EAO 2025-011 declared on July 12, 2025.
  • Red Lake 40 – North Spirit Lake First Nation
  • Red Lake 67 – McDowell Lake First Nation
  • Red Lake 72 – east of Poplar Hill
  • Sioux Lookout 54 – Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug/Big Trout Lake First Nation

Northeast Region

At the time of this update there are 8 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region. All 8 fires are being observed. The wildland fire hazard ranges from low to high across the Northeast Region. From Bancroft to Big Cedar, the hazard is extreme.
