Student Mentorship Program (Closed Message)

OAEM Student Mentorship Program Now Closed for Fall Intake

The OAEM Mentorship Program is designed to connect Disaster and Emergency Management students with Emergency Management and Business Continuity professionals, allowing them the opportunity to gain valuable experience and advice for professional/career development.

Being a Mentee is an excellent way to gain valuable knowledge and advice on pursuing a career in this field. Being a Mentor contributes to the growth of Emergency Management in Ontario, through fostering a new generation of capable, knowledgeable, and innovative young professionals

Program at a Glance

COMMITMENT: 3 HOURS PER MONTH FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS.

FALL COHORT - OCTOBER TO MARCH (please note 2022 applications have closed)

SPRING COHORT - APRIL TO SEPTEMBER

Purpose: The relationship between mentors and mentees is viewed as a partnership. Therefore, the Mentorship Program is not intended as a co-op placement service for students, but is offered as a tool for students seeking career advice from successful and experienced Emergency Management and/or Business Continuity Professionals. Each cohort is an excellent opportunity for both parties to learn from each other, as well as to develop oneself.

Expectations: The mentors and mentees will set their own contract in terms of expectations and time commitment. OAEM, led by the Education Chair, will oversee the program.

Examples of mentorship opportunities/venues: The exchange can take many forms, including discussion over the phone, online, or in person, as well as through attendance at workshops, seminars, networking events, job shadowing, tours of facilities, and other interactions. Both mentors and mentees should make an effort to facilitate this connection.

Note: As the pandemic continues to unfold, we request that Mentorship Program participants keep public health measures in mind if choosing to meet in person.

Student members: This program is for OAEM Student Members. If you are currently an Ontario student in an emergency management program who is not a current OAEM member, you can sign up to be a student member by going here or contacting the Membership Chair. First year of membership is free for students, and the second year is only $65!

Note: Submitting an application does not guarantee your acceptance into the OAEM Mentorship Program*
